About Us

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide insight and information to improve the quality of life physically, mentally, and emotionally while offering local resources to assist in the journey. In each issue, readers find cutting-edge information on natural health, fitness, nutrition, personal growth, green living, creative expression, and the local products and services to support a healthy lifestyle.

About Us

Natural Awakenings Healthy Living Magazine began in Naples, Florida, in 1994 by entrepreneur Sharon Brackman. In a response for her community to share information about health and sustainable living, Brackman created this publication in order to educate and inform. By 1998, Natural Awakenings grew to 60 publications and currently the family has grown to over 90 cities publishing throughout the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.

In 2004, Portland Natural Awakenings published its first edition and since then has continued to grow and develop into our city’s premier monthly publication about Healthy Living & Healthy Planet topics. Recently, in March 2016, Portland Health Publishing took the franchise over and and Douglas Merrow took the position of Publisher.

This free monthly magazine is dedicated to providing insights and information to improve the quality of life physically, mentally, and emotionally. Each month we present special features, local news briefs, health briefs, eco briefs, and a number of great national and local articles within our departments of health and green living. Also included is our local community resource guide and community calendar. Printed on 100 percent recycled paper and with environmentally friendly ink being just about as earth friendly as a print publication can be, taking it one step further, readers can also view the magazine online digitally. Whether you follow us via our print or digital magazines, track us on facebook, twitter, or youtube, have joined our naturally networking Portland group, visit our website, or stop by one of the many trade shows we partner with, we hope together we learn, grow and share with the Portland/ Vancouver community we love and call home.

With hundreds of locations from Vancouver to South Clackamas County, you can find our magazine at health food stores, libraries, restaurants, fitness studios, practitioner offices and generally wherever free publications are seen. Natural Awakenings Portland / Vancouver edition has continued to expand locally and can now be found throughout Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark counties.
